WHAT:
Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas and Sumner County Schools will host a kickoff event to announce the launch of a new school‑based health clinic at J.W. Wiseman Elementary School. This public‑private partnership is designed to improve healthcare access for Portland‑area families, reduce barriers to learning, and support student success.

- Leadership from Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas
- Sumner County Schools district leaders, including Superintendent Dr. Scott Langford
- Local elected officials
- School and community partners
WHEN:
Monday, March 2, 2026
10am to 11am
WHERE:
J.W. Wiseman Elementary School
Portland, Tennessee
WHY:
The new clinic will bring convenient, on‑site medical care directly to where children learn—helping keep students healthy, in class, and ready to succeed. Located within a five‑mile radius of eight Sumner County schools, the clinic is positioned to serve a large portion of the Portland community. Highpoint Health is funding and overseeing construction, staffing, and clinical operations, while the district is providing previously unused space to support access during the school day.
The clinic will offer:
- Diagnosis and treatment of common childhood illnesses and minor injuries
- Family wellness and pediatric care for the broader community
- Preventive services including screenings and immunizations
- A dedicated nurse practitioner will staff the clinic, allowing many students to receive care without parents having to leave work. Walk‑in availability and scheduled appointments will serve both students and community members.
PHOTO / MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES:
- “Groundbreaking” ceremony with officials and partners – we will have sawhorses and saws
- Interviews with district and healthcare leadership
- Visuals of the construction site and planned clinic space
