U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lifts Old Hickory Lake water supply moratorium

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 13, 2021) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces the lifting of the Old Hickory Lake water supply moratorium effective today.

Municipalities and other potential users may now apply for new or increased water supply.

A moratorium in 2010 prevented new or increased water withdrawals from Old Hickory Lake due to more water being withdrawn than entering the reservoir through local inflows.

“A recently completed analysis shows we can now allow additional water supply without impacting originally authorized purposes of the reservoir,” said Amanda Burt, PMP, planning project manager.

For more information on how to apply for new or increased water supply withdrawals from Old Hickory Lake, contact the Old Hickory Resource Management Office at 615-822-4846 to set up a pre-application meeting. Applications are evaluated according to existing processes and are not guaranteed approval.
