Executive Order #38 - Relaxing Social Distancing Guidelines

 

Governor Lee’s Executive Order #38 - An Order Expanding the Number of Tennesseans Who Return To Work Safely, went into effect on May 22nd, 2020.  The Executive Order strongly urges a strict adherence to health guidelines and a pledge to follow the Economic Recovery Group guidelines and states that social distancing remains imperative; The order expands the limits on the amount of people in a social or recreational activity or event to 50 while encouraging people to maintain at least 6 feet of separation from persons outside their household. More than 50 people could gather for an event and sit in a bleacher setting provided that groups of people are spread out from one another. Contact sporting events are prohibited under the Order while non-contact sporting events and activities are permissible subject to social distancing. In accordance with CDC guidelines persons are urged to wear face coverings in public places. The Order can be read here.

 

 

 

State of TN Unemployment Claims Report

Since the week of March 21st, 558,621 new claims have been filed for unemployment insurance in the State of Tennessee.  At 212,259, our 13-county Northern Middle Workforce Area makes up 38% of all the claims across Tennessee's 95 counties.  In the United States, another 2.1M new claims were filed last week pushing the total past 4M.


A glimmer of good news - since the week of April 4th and week to week over the last seven weeks the unemployment claims have decreased, as reflected in the chart below.
