New Board Member Announcement
I am happy to announce the new incoming board members for the 2018-2019 Hendersonville Area Chamber of Commerce. I am very excited about the growth and development of our Chamber and with the rich experience of this highly talented group, I believe even greater times are ahead. I would like to thank each one of these talented individuals for their enthusiasm and willingness to serve the business community of this great city. Please take some time to read about each of those who will be joining the board this coming June.
Nicolas Howald- COO, HCA-TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center
My name is Nick Howald and I am the Chief Operating Officer of TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center. At TriStar Hendersonville, I assume line responsibility and authority for the administrative direction, evaluation, and coordination of the functions within the hospital organization to ensure operational objectives and results are in accord with the overall hospital needs.
I am a native of Des Moines, Iowa and went to undergraduate and graduate school at the University of Iowa, where I received my MBA in Corporate Finance and my Masters in Hospital Administration. Prior to joining TriStar Hendersonville, I was the Associate Chief Operating Officer of TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. I am engaged to Rachel Redenius, who completed her residency in Dermatology at Vanderbilt University and a fellowship in Moh’s Reconstructive Surgery at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. We love to travel and be in the outdoors hiking. My hobbies are playing golf, fishing and exploring with Rachel.
I am excited to be a part of the beautiful and growing community of Hendersonville and thank you for the opportunity to be considered for the Board of Directors of Hendersonville’s Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Renee Dauer- Campus Director, Union University
Dr. Renee’ Dauer serves as the Director of Union University’s Hendersonville campus, Chair of the Adult and Professional Studies program, and is an Associate Professor in Organizational Leadership. Renee’ joined Union in May, 2010, when the Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership program was launched in Hendersonville.
Renee’s passion to serve and inspire others called her to teaching over 25 years ago. She has taught at Volunteer State Community College and Western Kentucky University. Her professional experience also includes work in training and development, public relations and marketing for companies such as Dollar General Corporation, J.C. Bradford & Company, and The Visibility Company.
Renee’ works with employers in the community to facilitate partnerships to provide an educated and skilled workforce. She is an advocate for adults to earn college credit through prior learning from work and volunteer experiences. In 2013, Renee’ was chosen by the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) to receive the Learning Counts Ambassador award in San Diego, California.
Renee’ is also an active member of the community. She serves on the Chamber Foundation Board and the Economic and Community Development committee for the Hendersonville Area Chamber of Commerce. Renee’ and her husband, Brett, have lived in Hendersonville for over 20 years, and they are members of the Hendersonville First United Methodist Church. As a native Kentuckian, Renee’ and her family are enthusiastic fans of the Kentucky Wildcats.
Jeff Burns- CFO, Aladdin Temp- Rite, LLC
Jeff Burns is the Chief Financial Officer of Aladdin Temp-Rite in Hendersonville, TN. Prior to joining Aladdin and moving to Hendersonville in 1999, Jeff honed his skills in positions of increasing responsibilities at a number of other manufacturing companies in North Louisiana and East Texas including UNR Home Products, Sunbeam Outdoor Products and Frymaster. Jeff has a B.S in Accounting and an M.B.A. from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA and holds his CPA license in the State of Louisiana.
Lynn Bowles- Publisher, Hendersonville Lifestyle
Originally from Detroit, Michigan I came to Nashville 1993 to work as an account executive at The Tennessean newspaper. Over my career in the print media I have worked in management for some the largest print media companies in the world including Gannett (Nashville, TN), McClatchy (Charlotte, NC, Myrtle Beach, SC), Scripps (Knoxville, TN), and most recently at iHeart Media radio. It was with that 20+ years experience that I own and started Hendersonville Lifestyle magazine in 2016. Hendersonville Lifestyle magazine is mailed monthly to 13,500 single-family homes in Hendersonville, TN.
Amy Raines- General Manager, Park Place Retirement Community
Amy Raines has been the General Manager of Park Place Retirement Community in Hendersonville, TN since 2010. Prior to her career in senior living, Amy worked in non-profit programs which served the elderly and the developmentally disabled. Her non-profit career spanned from positions as Support Coordinator, Regional Administrator and Director of Quality Assurance. Amy has assisted with developing non-profit programs and proposals with approval through the State of Tennessee Department of Developmental Disabilities and the Tennessee Commission on Aging. She is also a licensed Home for the Aged/Assisted Care Living Facility Administrator through the Tennessee Department of Health.
Amy is a graduate of Leadership Sumner and currently sits on the Board of Directors for the program. She served on the Board of Directors for the Hendersonville Senior Citizen’s Center from 2012 to 2015. She has also been a member of the Senior Services Network since 2010. She is currently the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Centers for Assisted Living. She is a recent graduate of the Tennessee Health Care Association Future Leaders program and sits on the Public Relations Committee for the Tennessee Health Care Association.
Amy and her husband, Tyler, live in Gallatin with their children, Ben and Morgan. Tyler is a teacher at Station Camp Middle School. In her free time, Amy enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
JJ Von Kessel- Owner, The UPS Store
JJ von Kessel has been a proud business owner of The UPS Store for 18 years. JJ has served Hendersonville in many different capacities. JJ has enjoyed chairing events such as Relay for Life, and Rock Castle's annual gala in 2013-2015 .
JJ is a member of the GFWC Women's Club, and The Junior Service League. JJ has enjoyed serving on boards such as Rock Castle, HolidayFEST, as well as Leadership Sumner. Currently, JJ is serving as a Women of Monthaven. JJ also enjoys connecting with other women through Sumner County Women in Business.
In 2011 JJ was awarded Rookie of the Year with the GFWC Women's Club of Hendersonville. In 2014 JJ was named Volunteer of the Year with Historic Rock Castle.
Daniel McMullen – Director of Sales and Marketing, LaQuinta Inn
My father moved my family to Hendersonville in 1985 when I was 15 years old for a sales job. Once I graduated from Hendersonville High School, I went on to get my bachelor degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN. I started my sales career in Kentucky, but my love for Hendersonville was too strong. I moved my family back in 1998. I pretty much sold everything from pavers to fasteners until 2009. In 2009 I started my career in hospitality and quickly advanced my role from sales manager to director of sales for different hotel groups here in the mid-state. I am currently a regional sales manager for local hotel group. I have just finished my second year with the Hendersonville Chamber Ambassador program. I am currently on the board of the Goodlettsville Convention Visitors Bureau.
Wendy Navarro- Owner of the Navarro Creative Group
Wendy Navarro is the Founder and Owner of NAVARRO CREATIVE GROUP, a boutique marketing agency formed in 2015, which helps small businesses across a variety of market sectors to build their digital presence by providing website design, social media marketing, and consulting services. Her cornerstone business consulting model achieves demonstrated success through integrating social entrepreneurship and collaborative networking, a process where businesses share their experiences and expertise and inevitably by “giving back” they grow their business as they are helping others grow theirs. In 2015, she founded the Sumner County Women in Business networking group and mastermind co-hort, and in 2017 accepted the invitation for SCWB to merge with the Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce.
Wendy has been a small business owner since 2006. She is especially proud of her involvement as a mentor and adviser to other business owners and start-ups, and as an active community volunteer. Prior to founding her businesses, her tenure in Organizational Development and Leadership with the Superior Court of California resulted in system wide efficiencies and increased revenues. Currently, Wendy is a member of the Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce, Tennessee Chapter of the American Association of Marketers, Advisory Committee HolidayFest, is the acting Chamber Ambassador for Sumner County Women in Business and the 2017 and 2018 Women Impacting the Community Luncheons, and serves as the marketing advisor for two other local not-for-profits. She has served as a TN Promise Mentor and past member of the Board of Friends of Rock Castle State Historic Site where she chaired the Marketing and PR committee. Her awards and commendations include the 2012 National Small Business Champion Award – Small Business Association (SBA), and the 2012 Red Tricycle’s Most Awesome Awards – Hippest Kids Store SoCalKids San Diego/Orange County. A regular guest on local radio, she has been featured in Forbes.com, PR Underground, Home Business Magazine, Style Network PR, FOX17 News, Orange County Parenting Magazine, OCFamily Magazine, 2011 Parenting OC – “When Mom’s the Boss” and OC Mompreneurs and the cover on American Baby Magazine,
Wendy has two grown children who attend college at Lipscomb University and Vol State, a 12-year-old son who attends Station Camp Middle School, and 1 year old grandson. She has been married for 25 years to her husband and biggest supporter, Rick and resides in Hendersonville, TN. Her interests include music, reading, the arts and a variety of outdoor activities in her lakefront community.
Laura Degelau- Senior Account Executive, Comcast Spotlight
Laura Degelau was born and raised in Terre Haute, IN and relocated to Northern IL for high school in 1988. She spent 2 years in Hawaii after college, before returning to the Mainland to start her career in Radio and marketing with Cumulus Broadcasting. During her 13 years in radio advertising she worked with several non-profits, including St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, held a seat on the board of the Miss Rockford Pageant, part of the Miss America Organization and served as an Ambassador for Donate Life Illinois. In 2010 she transitioned her marketing experience into the world of television and online media with Comcast Spotlight and now enjoys helping local business develop and grow telling their story in their local community.
Laura and her husband Donovan relocated to Sumner County in the summer or 2013 and love being involved with their 2 school age children and enjoy cheering them on along with their friends at Station Camp Elementary and Station Camp High School. Their oldest daughter teaches elementary education in Dixon, IL and loves to visit when she can.
As a graduate of Leadership Sumner Class of 2016, and co-director for the 2016-17 class, Laura has gotten an opportunity to see many of Sumner County’s hidden treasures. Engaging in the community and the Chamber has been a wonderful way to network and meet with the business owners and leaders in Hendersonville and Middle Tennessee.
As an Ambassador with the Chamber in 2017, I look forward to continuing that commitment this year am excited to take a seat on the Board of Directors along with continuing my commitment to grow and work with other members.
