Vietnam Veterans of America #240
Joseph K. Pehm
1. What do you feel your biggest business accomplishment has been?
There are really two the first one would be, having our Sumner County Veterans Park in Gallatin behind the Sumner County Administration Building at 355 N. Belvedere. It is a place where you can, the community can honor ALL veterans by the purchase of a brick or a paver in the name of that veteran and thank them for their service to our country. Second would be the Food Pantry that we have had operated since 2005 providing food and financial help to any qualified veteran/active Military member and their families in need with food very Saturday at the Hendersonville VFW which we have partnered with back in 2008. The food pantry is available to any and all military personnel that live in Sumner County.
2. What do you love the most about your industry and what you do professionally?
What I love about what I (we) do is help any and all veterans and their families in Sumner County or where ever I meet a veteran even in traveling. We stand on our Founding Principal “Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another” This meaning from educating and assisting them from health benefits to guiding them and their families on claims. Our State Vietnam Veterans of America conducts Town Hall meeting throughout the whole state of Tn. on Agent Orange and Surviving &Succeeding Over PTSD which we include the First Responders in the area. People must understand PTSD does not just affect the veterans/ first responders but the whole family and the community. This is why we need the communities support in all facets of what we do.
3. How has the Hendersonville Area Chamber of Commerce made a difference in your life and would you recommend the organization to others?
The Chamber has helped me (us) in advertising what our activities are in the County/Hendersonville, such as our upcoming Bass Tournament on Aug 19, 2017 at Flippers in Gallatin. All proceeds that we raise stays in Sumner County for veteran’s aid. It is good to have a partner such as the Chamber.
4. If you had any advice for another business person, what would it be?
Learn what resources that you have around you and use it to the fullest. Build a partnership relationship with that resource. Become a member of your Chamber.
