Sumner County Master Gardeners Renovatation

Sumner County Master Gardeners bring new life to an old portion of the
Park Place Retirement Courtyard!

The Sumner County Master Gardeners graciously volunteer their time around the community digging in the dirt!  This club volunteers with Park Place Retirement, Rock Castle, Mansker Station, Vol State Community College, Sumner Regional Medical Center, and other places around town to keep their grounds beautiful for all to enjoy!  The summer is a busy time for them with planting, maintaining, and watering.  Most recently, they focused two full weekends on revamping the Courtyard Garden at Park Place Retirement which is one of their best features thanks to the Sumner County Master Gardeners and all of their hard work and dedication!

The Courtyard Garden features several areas with different colors and textures, including the Shady Garden, the Herb Garden, the koi fish pond, bird feeders/baths, walking paths, several sitting areas, and raised vegetable beds for the residents to grow crops in.  Most recently Matt & wife, Sue Martin (Project Co-Chairs), Jolene Fechter (the designer), and over 25 awesome Master Gardeners spent only 2 weekends revamping the old train area of the courtyard.  After years of weather, it was time to change that area.  They removed the tracks and created a wonderful shaded sitting area with a new walking path featuring hostas, coral bells, limelight hydrangeas, rocks, fresh mulch and more!  It is absolutely beautifully landscaped!  The residents love the shade and enjoy spending time in it watching the birds and taking in the fresh air!  Park Place also uses the area to host Art Classes, Cookouts, Bonfires and more throughout the year.
