Originally settled in 1784 by surveyor and Revolutionary War veteran Daniel Smith, Hendersonville was not formally incorporated as a municipality until 1969. Since then, Hendersonville has grown to become the largest city in Sumner County and the 11 th largest city in Tennessee.
