Hendersonville Church of God hosts Free Concert with American Idol Contestant Phil Stacey
American Idol Season 6 finalist Phil Stacy will perform a free concert on Sunday, July 5, 2009, from 10:30am to Noon, in his hometown of Hendersonville, Tennessee, north of Nashville, at the Hendersonville Church of God, 724 E. Main St., Hendersonville, TN 37075.
The concert is free to the public, general admission, and outside weather permitting. Early arrival is encouraged for good seating. Picnic to follow with all-American food available from Campione's Taste of Chicago restaurant. In a special tribute to church members attending who are United States veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq, and in honor of the July 4th holiday, Stacey will dedicate the performance of his new song "Old Glory."
He also will perform other songs from his upcoming album, including the recently-released single, "You're Not Shaken." Christians stations have named it the best new song of the week.
Stacey recently finished recording his new 11-track album, Into the Light, which releases August 25, 2009. Stacey, an Idol Top 5 contestant, will showcase his acclaimed power vocals and songwriting chops with this first modern pop offering on Reunion Records.
The son of a pastor, grandson of two pastors, and a one-time music minister himself, Stacey celebrates faith and family on Into the Light, with legendary Christian music producer Brown Bannister (Amy Grant, Mandisa, Steven Curtis Chapman) at the helm.
"There are songs on the project that will encourage and others that will challenge. Some that I've written and others that I heard and just had to record, including one by one of my favorite artists, Rich Mullins, called 'Hard to Get'," says Stacey, who performed for an average of 30 million viewers a week, for the 11 weeks he competed on American Idol. "Everything I did with American Idol has readied me for this platform and this album. This is where I feel at home and I can't wait for people to hear these songs."
Like Taylor Swift and so many other musicians living just north of Music City U.S.A., Stacey is a resident of Hendersonville along with his wife and two children, and his father is the pastor of the Hendersonville Church of God.

Roger Martin wins 2nd Place Trophy at Body Building Contest
Roger Martin, owner and personal trainer at Martin's Gym, entered the Hub City Fitness Quest Bodybuilding Championship on June 30, 3009. Martin was placed in the Men's Master Division (age 50 and older). When asked how the show went, Martin replied, "It was my first show and I really didn't know what to expect. My special diet and training for the show started 10 weeks ago. I was confident because I knew that I had given 100% and you have to feel good about that. My competition was bigger and more experienced, but I brought in a good structure and pleasing lines. I was very competitive in my division, and after everything was said and done, I brought home the second place trophy."
Martin's Gym is located at 601 B South Main St, Goodlettsville. "It is a private gym," says Martin. " I train one on one, and if someone has a training partner, I will train one on two. But no more than that is ever in the gym at one time. My formula for success is based on four things: Training, Nutrition, Rest and Health. Dial in all four areas, and you can get in the best shape of your life."
Martin invites everyone to attend his ribbon cutting ceremony sponsored by the Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce, on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at 1:30 pm. For more information, please call Martin's Gym at 615-557-3516.
COMPASS Hosts Breakfasts
Please mark your calendars for an exciting special event to promote and benefit education in Sumner County on Thursday, July 2.
COMPASS, as many of you are aware, is an acronym for Community Outreach Making Partnerships At Sumner Schools.
The mission of COMPASS is to promote student success by developing partnerships between the business community and Sumner County schools.
Because of the program that we initiated last year, “Educate and Grow Sumner County,” which is managed by COMPASS, 90 Sumner County students are attending Volunteer State Community College on last-dollar scholarships. (COMPASS website: http://www.sumnercompass.org)
The COMPASS board is hosting a series of fundraising breakfast meetings beginning in July. To show the importance and excitement of what we’re doing in Sumner County, the guest speakers will include U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander, Governor Phil Bredesen, U.S. Senator Bob Corker and more.
The first event is 7:15 to 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 2 at First Baptist Church Hendersonville, 106 Bluegrass Commons Blvd. The cost is $20 per person, which includes breakfast.
U. S. Senator Lamar Alexander, who has served as governor of Tennessee, U.S. Secretary of Education and president of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, will be the guest speaker.
We realize this is a vacation week for some but you can still help our schools and COMPASS. If your schedule prevents you from attending, please consider making a contribution or buying a ticket for a family member or friend. (COMPASS is a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization that operates on contributions from local businesses, organizations, and individuals.)
