The solicitation is purportedly from the "Yellow Pages" and nefariously shows a logo which looks like the well recognized Yellow Pages logo only it's upside down!
The idea here is to get you to fill out your information, sign the agreement and fax back. They encourage you by promising to submit your information, search words & key industry phrases to Google. But if you do that you will have agreed to pay them $89.00 per month for a two-year term...are you counting? That's over $2100, with the first year in advance.
If you were to sign up, you will receive an invoice, followed by a nasty-gram reminder that if you don't pay they will sue you. When you wake up, and refuse to pay up you'll receive notice that the Yellow Pages-Tennessee.com plans to file a lawsuit against you in New York. NEW YORK? ...you don't live in New York. Tough, you have agreed to be sued there, it's all in the terms and conditions you unwittingly signed and faxed back.
Sorry, but there's more. Because they will list your business on their website, which probably gets just about no traffic at all except for those of us at the BBB who investigate scams like this, the so called publisher, Yellow Publishing Ltd. is listed as having an address at 111 Picadilly, Manchester M1, UNITED KINGDOM so you may need to hire a lawyer in England to get your money back.
One more bit of information. This scammer also does business as: YellowPage-California.com, YellowPage-Michigan.com, YellowPage-NewYork.com, etc.
Now you know whose behind this scam, how to avoid it, and how to protect your business against scams.
